ABOUT WEAVER

Hello, wonderful peeps …Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m ‘Leon Barton’, otherwise musically known as ‘Weaver’.The story of Weaver stretches back some almost 50 years now, with me having, by chance, first sat at a piano at the tender age of just 7 yrs. During that very first magical encounter with the ‘Tinkling Ivories’, I somehow created an original melody of my own - purely by ear, no less - and I’ve never stopped doing the same year on year ever since …The deepest truth is that music has kept me sane throughout all of the trials and tribulations of life, both the highs and the lows ( and there have been many ) ; also at those most difficult moments in which I really wasn’t overly sure if I could pull through and still keep on trucking. Yet through melody, lyric and verse, music helped me to keep everything in perspective, hopeful and as light as possible, even in the darkest of hours and moments. Above all else, I’m forever grateful for everything musical inspiration has come to represent in my life today … I’m indebted forever !!Every track I release is deeply personal and many of these initial releases happen to be almost as old as I am ( yep, that’s right, they’re ancient ! ), with the eldest track [ ‘So cold is the night’ ] having just turned a ripe old 42, no less. The body of work here represents something a little deeper than just the experiences and feelings that the songs were based on, but the realisation of a promise made, and kept, to my late wife ( and ‘Soulmate’ ), who sadly passed away following a short, but gallantly brave battle against a very rare and aggressive form of cancer … she was only 47, so I need to have a serious talk with God about that some day. She jokingly said to me that she’ll be dead before I bother to focus on myself as the ‘Artist’ and release my songs. We had no idea at the time how sadly prophetic her joking would turn out to be 😔So, to you, Diane : ‘I’m so, so sorry, baby, that I didn’t hold enough belief or confidence in myself back in the day, but I will make good on the promise I made to you, shortly before you passed and God carried you home, that I will release my music now and in the years to come. I love you beyond words and sentiment ( never forget ! ) and I continue to walk every step with you in my heart - even now, until we’re together again’.As a side note, there is a lot of controversy in the music world currently about AI and its involvement either directly, or assisting, in creating songs (there is more than just a subtle difference between the two, be strongly advised). Historically this reflects a common reaction to what is new, unknown and perhaps misunderstood somewhat. As a consequence, some innovations are often instantly labelled as a ‘threat’. The doom-mongers have seriously jumped onboard the bandwagon already, proffering the view that Ai represents the end of the creative musical world for bands, musicians and songwriters. The belief is that all will be displaced and replaced by Ai's emergence. They said the same thing about ‘Sampling’ back in the 1980s and, ask yourself, where would Hip-Hop and other creative genres be without it today ? Sometimes, you just have to have an idea where to draw the line and about how much ‘noise’ really needs to be shut out …I have embraced certain aspects of its possibilities in terms of my modern music production, from supportive final track mastering to modern vocal production techniques and layered textures. However, most importantly to note is that ‘All’ of Weaver’s compositions are original songs ( music and lyrics ), based solely on my original music ! I do entirely understand the negativity about ‘prompt’ written songs and entirely agree that they're not ‘real’ musical efforts … It goes against what true musicianship is, simply stated. But Ai 'assistance' applied to original song compositions is an entirely different matter aa these contain essential human origin and creation from the outset. In this regard, Ai assistance has a very firm place in the ‘polishing’ of many music genres today. It's rumoured to be increasingly used by a surprising number of top artists and established producers in their production work ( ahem … hush, hush ). However we'll avoid naming names here - a quick 'Google' can be surprisingly revealing if you ask it the right questions, let's just say ! Ultimately, much of Ai's acceptable assisted use will be judged on its musical influence towards outcomes and how those final results connect with you personally.I would ask you to think of Weaver as a 'Creative Project'. It is songwriting and production created by Leon Barton, exploring a wide range of vocal performances and emotional landscapes. There are many vocal styles and sounds, so the project songs and melodies are collectively the artist in any given work. As you hear the different tunes with different vocal styles, it will make total sense in the setting of that particular song - think 'Massive Attack, Gorillas, Zero 7 and Clean Bandit' whom all rotate different singers/styles on their singles. I do very much the same, in certain regards. In short, I write my songs. I compose them. I arrange them. I use 'Ai-assisted' { only } vocals as a production tool, via 'Composities'. So, it's fully disclosed. It's directed and fully mine. I believe in transparency and this is why I explain the techniques. The steady stream of releases to come of my early songs are firmly rooted in both 80s and 90s vibes, revamped and updated to have a modern sound. These two decades were my main eras and reflects such magical times when I was full of hope, ambition and with a healthy dose of insulating naivety. But regardless of their chronology, I’ve always believed that a good melody stands the test of time and will always resonate ( whenever released ). I fully hope that the music to be released over the coming months and years will embellish this very belief for all of us. Above all else, I pray that listening to the songs brings as much joy to you as it did for me in writing them. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼Ultimately for me, my songs are an ongoing summary of the past journey that led me here to this point. And, yeah … looking at where it’s at now, it makes me smile inwardly more than just a little bit. Please be assured that there’s still so many more good vibes to come from the considerable body of material previously written, including more recent compositions too, so I will catch you on the flip-side of these upcoming future releases. Hang tight and I sincerely hope that you get onboard for the ride - It will be a long and rewarding one for all of us, I'm sure.In the meantime, be lucky, stay blessed and my deepest gratitude to you all, now and always ...Weaver, 2026.
